About John Peyre Thomas, M.D.

"John Peyre Thomas was born in 1796 at Betaw plantation on the Santee River near St. Stephen, South Carolina. He became a physician and planter in Fairfield District and Married Harriet Jane Couturier, daughter of Elias and Sarah (Palmer) Couturier of St. John Parish, Charleston District. Mrs. Thomas died at their summer home in Greenville on September 13, 1835, shortly after the birth of their sixth child. In 1836 Dr. Thomas married his late wife's sister, Charlotte Henrietta Couturier, and they lived at Mount Hope plantation near Ridgeway in Fairfield District. John Peyre Thomas died in 1859."
