About John Trye II, Esq., of Hardwick Court
John Trye II was the son of John Trye I, Esq., of Hardwick Court, Gloucestershire, and wife Mary (or Elizabeth) Gourney. He married Margaret Skipwith c.1658. Margaret Skipwith was the daughter of Sir William Skipwith, Knight, of Ormsby, and his wife Elizabeth Page. John Trye II was succeeded by his son William.
John and Margaret had eleven children - 6 sons and 5 daughters - but most did not survive to adulthood. No known children of the second marriage.
Burke's Landed Gentry states that Mary was a first wife and that there was a second wife, the sister of Sir James Croft. The Visitations to Gloucestershire in 1623 states that Margaret, daughter of Sir William Skipwith, was the first wife and that Alice Croftes, sister to Sir James Croft, was the second wife. Burke's Extinct Baronetcies contradicts Landed Gentry and confirms the Visitations. In addition, this last source shows that Mary Skipwith married George Metham. Many web trees combine Mary and Margaret into one profile who married first John Trye and second George Metham.
