About John Bean Upton

John had moved from Batavia, New York to Van Buren County, Michigan in 1870. Around 1876 he moved to Mecosta County, Michigan where he was a prominent attorney. He died in Big Rapids, Michigan and most likely is buried there.

John was a brother to Major General Emory Upton.

Other children: Sherman R. Upton born in NY 1858 and was listed with the family still on the 1880 census.

LaRoy Sunderland Upton born October 1869 in Decatur, Michigan. Died March 1, 1927. Married Agnes Millar (?)in 1903. He attended West Point and was a Brig. General in the US Army. They had two sons, the second apparently dying very young. The first son was Ralph M. Upton 1905 to 1970 (Macomb Co, Mi) who was probably named for Agnes's brother who died before the age of 16.
