John was a miller and had a mill on Veazey Creek in Chambers County, AL. He was a deacon and member of the Union Primitive Baptist Church. When the church was disbanded in 1874 he was chosen to dispose of the church property. He was listed in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census in Chambers County, AL.
