They first settled in Red Oak, Iowa. In 1897 they moved to Veblen, South Dakota where the elder Wadholm homesteaded. In 1916 the Wadholm men went to North Dakota to homestead, leaving the families behind in South Dakota. In 1918 wife Petra with her sister Charlotte and children went to North Dakota also. John (Johan) homesteaded south of Sanish, North Dakota but because of the bobcats, left and moved southeast of Newtown. In 1942 John, Petra and children moved to California.
