John served in the Royal Navy. In 1915 Jane wrote a letter to the Accountant General of the Navy in an attempt to locate John. Their reply dated April 22, 1915, was unable to identify him as having entered the Royal Navy, based on the information she supplied. They could do a further search if she provided names of any ships and dates of service.
