"John W had several siblings."
"John W 1831-1865 only had one wife [regardless of any confusion in the records]. I saw his grave in about 1979. He was buried next to his father, John M. in the First Universalist Church cemetery in New Madison, but was listed as John J and that is how I refer to him. It was that way also in the will. His marker is no longer there. He died shortly after he got back from the Civil War. There were 4 girls in addition to Edward. John J's wife remarried Evin Eddins and that is a story in itself."
He was listed as John J in the 1860 census. On June 22, 1860 he was 29, born in Ohio. Wife, Mary A, 28, Children: Edward 6, Clarra C 4, Ida A, 1.
In the same census, next door is Mary Wilt, widow, age 60, born Kentucky. This, I think, is the connection to John J being a son of John M and (this) Mary Wade Roberts Wilt. Living with her at this time is Martin Wilt 20, David Wilt 16, and John F Roberts 7. He may be her grandson.
In the same census, next door to her is Daniel Wilt, 63 born in Maryland, wife Martha 50 Ireland, child John S 19.
The purpose of this information is to try to clear up the middle initials of the Johns, and show relationships.
John J, between 1861 and 1864 was in the 35th Ohio Infantry, Company E. -Jeane (Wilt) Melendy
