Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Winslow-1667

Josias (or John) Winslow was born on 13 January 1683/4 in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony, the son of Nathaniel and Faith (Miller) Winslow.[1] The birth record says Josias, but this name is not found in the father's will, 20 February 1709, while son John is named.[2] John Winslow, of Swansey, described as one of the "sons of Capt. Nathaniel Winslow, late of Marshfield," released his interest in his father's estate to his brother, Kenelm Winslow, 27 Jan 1719/20.[3]

The estate of John Winslow of Wareham was probated in Wareham on April 3, 1758, his will dated at Wareham, 5 Dec 1755.[4]

In John's will, he named his wife Mary .[4] Children named in John's will (birth order uncertain):[4]

  1. William
  2. Faith Randall
  3. Eleanor Besse
  4. Sarah Turner
  5. Mary Wood

[Note: Findagrave memorial also gives a son John, with the above children born in Marshfield & Swansey]

As posted in sources, the probated will shows the accurate record of his name (Josiah) and some children's names that differ from the narrative record. It's apparent that one or more children died before the will was written, which date also differs between the two records. It also shows some names of children in the will that are not in the narrative record. Now the challenge is to determine if some of the differences can be reconciled. It is probable that one or two children's names were misidentified by the narrative record, which comes from a source known to include errata as to names and relationships. Because this is now a new family added to Geni. the added wife and children are not detailed and free of error. This person profile is not in my primary lineage. I posted two sources and leave it to others to emend. Be cautious about connecting himeither of 2 Marys others poorly have reasoned. A marriage between a Mary Little in 1725 would be irrational. There's one undated marriage record between a John Winslow (as in the narrative record) and a Mary Chilton. – Ken Shelley, 20 May 2022
