http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/exhibits/majors/exhibit_majors.htm

Majors was an All-American running back at the University of Tennessee, finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1956 to Paul Hornung. He became the head coach at Iowa State, leading them to their first bowl game win, then the University of Pittsburgh in 1973, leading them to their last national championship in 1976, an undefeated season behind legendary running back Tony Dorsett. After that season, he was hired at his alma mater Tennessee, compiling over 100 wins and three SEC titles in 15 years. He then returned to coach Pittsburgh for 3 seasons and became the special assistant to Pitt’s athletic director and chancellor until he retired in 2007.
