About Jonathan Emerson

http://www.familyrecord.net/getperson.php?personID=I6633&tree=Corli...

From "The Haverhill Emersons," pgs. 28-30: "Jonathan and Hannah (Day) Emerson gave to their sons Nathaniel and Richard land in Methuen that had descended to Hannah from Robert Clements to Mr. Pengry of Ipswich, and from him to John Day, Hannah's father. She was a member of the church as by earliest list extant. Jonathan had lands from his father (see Michael Emerson). His house was on the south side of the present Webster Street, near Primrose; was one of the "garrison houses" in the Indian War times. He and John Swan had liberty from the town March 7, 1704/1705, to build and maintain a grist mill upon the Little River between the West bridge and Sergt. Joseph Kingsbury's land. He was a constable and selectman at times. He died August 19, 1736. His will, dated August 7, 1736, was proved September 13 following. Provided very fully for his wife's support; gave lands to his sons John, Nathaniel, Timothy, Richard, and Nehemiah; small sums of money to sons Samuel and Jonathan because he had previously made gifts to them; "my son Moses to be carried through the colledge, and if he comes well out to have one hundred pounds to buy him a library"; money to daughters. The estate was appraised at L2,159-2-5."

Footnote, pg. 29, says: "Timothy Emerson, Richard Emerson, Nehemiah Emerson, Abigail Ayer, widow, William Bradley and Mehitabel, his wife, all of Haverhill, Samuel Emerson, Jr., of Newburyport and Anna Runnels of Boxford, spinster, Samuel Emerson, of Chester, NH, Esq., and Moses Emerson of Durham, NH, Esq., joined in a quitclaim deed Aug. 25, 1770, to Jacob Whitcher of all their rights in land in Haverhill, being part of the homestead of Jonathan Emerson, late of Haverhill, adjoining some land which they had lately quitclaimed to John Emerson. "Abel Webster and Hannah, his wife, in her right; George Hull and Mehitabel, his wife, of Plymouth, NH; Moses Emerson of New Hopkinton, NH, and Jonathan Emerson of Concord, NH, sold to Samuel Emerson of Newburyport four-fifths of one-tenth of the real estate of Jonathan Emerson, late of Haverhill, as being heirs to the estate of Nathaniel Emerson, late of Haverhill, deceased; dated June 4, 1770."
