Jonathan Paine, son of Joseph and Patience Paine, of Harwich, married Mercy Doane, of Eastham, daughter of Nathaniel Doane, Feb. 1, 1732-3, where he located. Further of him but very little is known. It is thought his widow married Jonathan Sparrow.

Children of Jonathan and Mercy Paine, of Eastham, as given in the old Eastham records:

306. III. Experience born October 20, 1738.
307. IV. Jonathan born May 14, 1741.
308. V. Mercy born October 2, 1743.

The book, History of Gorham, Maine page 703, indicates "this Thomas Paine was probably a son of Jonathan Paine, who was drowned at Casco in 1762, and was a descendant of Thomas and Mary (Snow) Paine of Eastham".
