About Joost "Joseph" Vanzeis

Joost or Joseph Van Sice, eldest son of Johannes Joosten was baptised on Jan. 4, 1699 in New York City. He was a gunsmith and armorer, and as a young man appears to have moved to Schenectady where he founded that line of the family. There is an account of Joseph Van Sice for services as a blacksmith in the Seneca country dated Sept. 15, 1726 and a commission for him to be an armorer to the Indians in the Seneca Country on Aug. 25, 1732. On Mar 24 1732 he witnessed the will of Cornelis Van Der Volgen whose widow he shortly married as his 2nd wife. He married (1) Helena Magdelena, dau. of Jan and Geesje (Veeder) Vroomna (born 10 Nov 1707, Vrooman Genealogy page 18) and they had Johannes, bp. 16 Jan bp. 23 Jan 1726 in Schenectady, sp. Gisbert Van Brokel, Maritie Vromans (aunt and her husband); Judickje, m. Henricus H. Veeder. On Nov. 8, 1732 Joseph m. (2) Elisabeth, dau. of Jacobus Peek, widow of Cornelis Van Der Volgen, and had the following additional children: Jacobus, bp Schenectady 19 Aug 1733, sp.
