Jose Joaquin Aguiluz Chavez was appointed Second Lieutenant of Comayagua during the Government of José Tinoco de Contreras who was then the Governor of Honduras. During the administration of Francisco Morazán, he served as substitute judge to the Honduran Supreme Court (1829 and 1830). In 1827 he also served as Deputy of Comayagua and Secretary General of the Government of Francisco Morazán. In 1842 he was an official delegate of El Salvador for Honduras and Guatemala. In 1845, along with Juan Lindo and Carlos Herrera, he signed the Treaty of Peace with El Salvador.
