The following info was provided by Jeanne Coyte Johnston, granddaughter of Joseph & Pauline Coyte, now 90 years of age, on 09-13-2011 to Gail Coyte Smith, great-granddaughter of Joseph & Pauline Coyte. The following is her recollection of Joseph Coyte:
1. owned "J. Coyte & Sons Hardware" on Cookman Avenue (nearest cross-street is Emory St.), Asbury Park NJ.; worked his store with sons Elmer & Edmund until Edmund left to open his own hardware store elsewhere in Asbury Park NJ.
2. lived at 125 Mt Tabor Way, Ocean Grove NJ; Ocean Grove & Asbury Park are adjacent neighboring communities separated by Wesley Lake.
3. Joseph sang in the choir or Trinity Episcopal Church, Asbury Avenue, Asbury Park NJ.
4. Joseph donated a large lighting fixture to Trinity Church; years later, Father Dudley Rapp removed the donated fixture saying it didn't "work" with the church's furnishings.
5. Joseph was buried in his choir robes! He is interned at Glenwood Cemetery, on Monmouth Rd, West Long Branch NJ. There are no cemeteries in either Ocean Grove or Asbury Park NJ.
Note from Gail Coyte Smith: Joseph married Pauline Josephine Kaste, widow of his brother Leigh Coyte; Pauline was his 2nd wife; Pauline and Leigh bore a daughter, Minnie Estelle Coyte Cherry...Minnie is buried next to Joseph and Pauline at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch NJ. Joseph had been previously married to Amelia Moore (buried in Woodland Cemetery, Coytesville NJ) who bore him 5 children and had left him a widower.
