Joseph Greenwood, Sr

Joseph Greenwood, son of Deacon William Greenwood and Abigail Woodward. Born 10 June 1734 in Sherborn, Ma. Died 27 Dec 1825.

Joseph Greenwood was a carpenter and weaver, a very prominent man in general affairs, moved to Holden, Ma., and then to Dublin, NH and in 1793 to Bethel, Maine. Dublin was incorporated 1771 and May 6 he was chosen the first town clerk which position he held for twenty years or more. He was a selectman eleven years and the town treasurer several years; represented the town in the convention of delegates which met at Exeter May 17, 1775. He was a noted schoolmaster, and the first Justice of the Peace in town. The history of Dublin says "he appears to have been a very capable man and to have done his business usually in a very correct and scholarly manner."

He married Sarah Greenwood, daughter of Lt Josiah Greenwood and Phebe Stearns, June 21, 1757. She was born July 6, 1737 and died in 1836.

They had the following children:

2. John Greenwood

3. Nathaniel Greenwood
