Joseph BURKHAMMER Sr.'s Civil War Papers data: Co. D, Tenth Reg. WVa Volunteers. DEC 31, 1862 -NOV 11 1862- sick at Buckhannon. Til APR 30, 1863- Present. AUG 31- OCT 31, 1863-sick. JUL 2 -DEC. 1863- present & returned from missing in action JUL 18th on DEC 8th 1863.FEB 29 1864- p resent-sick. JUN 30, 1864- sick at Grafton Hospital. AUG 3-DEC 31 1864-sick at Parkersburg. Company was in action 2 JUL 1863 Beverly, VA. Confined at Richmond VA JUL 9, 1863 while called missing in action & paroled on JUL 14th. JUL 14th reported at Camp P?oint. JUL 15th, 1863-s ick at Camp Chase, OH. Had Chronic Rheumatism. Wounded left iliac region of abdomen at Battle of Droop Mountain. Died from old battle wounds. Discharged at Wheeling 24 MAY 1865. Sanford B. TURNER fought in the same regiment & helped Elizabeth file for a pension claim. This Burkhammer family of WV known to have down home shindig parties-hiring bands consisting of prior slaves they helped to set free.
