JOSEPH LAROCQUE
Hudson's Bay Company Chief Trader
Joseph Larocque, whose brother François-Antoine was also active in the fur trade, was the son of François-Antoine Larocque, member for the county of Leinster (L’Assomption) in the first parliament of Lower Canada, and Angélique Leroux, and may have been the child, baptized François, born 20 Sept. 1786 at L’Assomption, Province of Quebec [Dictionary of Canadian Biography] http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/larocque_joseph_9E.html
Kamloops in British Columbia
In 1812, David Stuart of the American Pacific Fur Company built Fort Shuswap at the site of the present-day town of Kamloops. That same year, Joseph Laroque of the Montreal-based North West Company established a trading post across the river from the fort, where the Kamloops reserve would later be established.
