From "The Descendants of William Neff...", Second Generation Section:"Joseph petitioned the General Court for a grant of land inconsideration of his mother's services in assisting Hannah Dustin inkilling 'divers Indians.' In his petition he declared that his motherwas 'kept a prisoner a considerable time' and 'in their return homepast through the utmost hazard of their lives and suffered distressingwant, being almost starved before they could return to theirdwellings.' the Court granted Joseph Neff 200 acres of land in 1738in return for Mary's heroism killing Indians."
