About Joseph Plumb

!Josephs' birth year is found from date of death and age on his tombstone in Milford,CT. There was no minister in the church at Milford from 1682 to 1685, and Joseph's baptism is not known, but deeds from his father, John , show clearly that he was the son of John, and born about 1683 or 1684.

!There is a deed of John Sr., dated 1719 to him, wherein Mr. "John Plumb Sr. gives for "love and affection" to his "only surviving son Joseph" some lots of land and limits them to him and his eldest son "according to the law of England and not of this government" and makes them "unalienalble forever." his birth and baptism are not given. Joseph was appointed Adm'r of John, Sr.'s estate April 10 1728. He was called Joseph,Sr. in 1726. He and his wife joined the Church June 8 1718. On feb 7 1743, Charles was appointed "gaurdian of Bailey Plumb, minor son of Joseph Plumb, late of Milford, deceased." by the probate court of New Haven, bond 200#. All children, except Susanna, were named in a deed to them at Farmington as the "heirs of Joseph Plumb, deceased," and dated on Oct 29 1745. In another deed dated Oct. 1 1741, Joseph Plumbbuys land in Farmington and is described as of Milford. It is not known where Amariah, Sibilia, and Simeon were born. Susanna was probably dead when the deed of 1745 was made as she was not named in it .

!On the tombstone of Joseph Plumb is inscribed "JOSEPH PLUMB DIED MAY27 1742, AGED 58 YEARS." Josephs' widow within a year married Hezekiah Rue. !Information is from The Plumb Family Album by H.B. Plumb. Publ. in 1893.
