About Joseph Putman, Sr
JOSEPH PUTMAN born March 6, 1808 and died November 23, 1892. He married Elizabeth, a daughter of Andrew Putman junior. The lived for a while in Somerset County and in 1833 the moved to a 365 acre farm near Wilmot in Stark County, Ohio.
Joseph was the son of Peter Putman and Anna Maria Snyder. He married Elizabeth Putman. Joseph's father died when he was a year old, and then his mother died when he was five. He was raised by his brother Peter and his sister Elizabeth and her husband William Shunk. He worked as a farm hand and in 1833, moved to Stark County, purchasing 365 acres in Sugar Creek Township for $2,100. He and his wife were first cousins.
