Joseph Hancock Taylor was born in Kentucky, 26 January, 1836; died in Omaha, Nebraska, 13 March, 1885. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1856, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant of Cavalry on 16 January, 1857. He eventually was promoted to Colonel in the United States Army. Like his father, Brig. General Joseph Taylor (USA), he fought for the Union in the Civil War.
