Dansville Express - May 13, 1915
Joseph J. Vogt the nurseryman whose home has been for several years on Jefferson street died in the Sisters' Hospital in Buffalo early Tuesday morning, following an operation which was performed last Thursday. He had been in poor health for eighteen years but it was only for a short time that he felt he was seriously ill, and on the advice of his physician he went to Buffalo where the operation was performed and it was found he had a hard cancer or ulcer at the lower part of the stomach. He recovered so much that it was believed he might live some time, but the end came suddenly. Mr. Vogt was 64 years old on the first of May. He was the son of John Vogt and was born on Sandy Hill, learned the trade of a shoemaker and worked at it for some time and then engaged extensively in the growing of trees, in which he was quite successful. He was a highly respected citizen, a member of St. Mary's church, and of the C. R. and B.A., and he leaves his wife to whom he was married 42 years ago, and these children: William J. Vogt, George B. Vogt, Mrs. Walter Lamphier of Almond, Miss Lottie Vogt and Mrs. Irving Applin, and three grandchildren Kenneth and Dallas Lamphier and Irma Applin. Other near relatives who survive are brothers Baldes Vogt, Jacob J. Vogt, and sisters Mrs. John Rohner of Dansville and Mrs. Rehena Fox of Naples.
