Joseph & Franziska and their eight children set sail for the United States and arrived in New York, on September 1, 1855, on the ship Orpheus from Bremen, Germany. Their last name at that time was spelled Wetzstein.
It was mentioned that the family owned land and sold it in order to come to the US. Their land was on the border of Austria and Germany.
In 1858 they homesteaded in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin - plat of sec 36 E 1/2 of NW 1/4 T17 R19E, located on the Kiel Road, 1/2 miles southwest of Marytown. It is now owned by a fifth generation: Wilmer Buechel and Elizabeth Mueller. The land may have been secured before they arrived to Fond du Lac.
Joseph lived with his son Carl's family until his death, in the town of Stockbridge. Franziska's parents were unknown at the time of her death. The tombstone in Jericho cemetery states the date of birth for Joseph to be November 16, 1810.

After Franziska died, Joseph lived with their son Carl in the town of Stockbridge until he died.

Located on the Kiel Road, 1/2 miles southwest of Marytown. Owned by a fifth generation: Wilmer Buechel and Elizabeth Mueller. Lucile said land was settled in 1855. US arrived in NY Sept 1, 1855 on the ship Orpheus from Bremen Germany. Name was Wetzstein. Probably from country of Germany. Eight children were with them. Lucile said her dad mentioned that the family owned land and sold it in order to come to the US. Their land was on the border of Austria and Germany and there were wars [that changed the boundry I imagine.] Have jpg of ship and list BUR Holy Trinity cemetery in Jerico gives birth as the 16th. St JOhn's Kellner has two Wetzsteins: Joseph Edmund born 1865 to August and Auguste Eckhart and Rose Clara born 1867 no parents listed. A Simon and Rose Wettstein and a Peter & Josephine Wettstein are buried at Jericho Holy Trinity. Index shows no plot or dates and Tillie's index matches none of them.\ A record for declaration of intent, Calumet County for a Joseph on Sept 22, 1855. From Austria. Place: Fond du Lac.
