Joseph and his family appear in the 1861 census for Lindley-cum-Quarmby at Westgate, Lindley. He is married to Selina and his son Dyson is an infant. He remarried after Selina's death and was living in Westgate near Lindley at the time. In 1871 he appears with his second wife, Mary living at Kew Hill, Longwood.
RESEARCH NOTES: From Andy Eccles who lives in the area: What is interesting about this are the township boundaries for Quarmby and Longwood. Those places are now further south and places like Haigh House Hill and Lindley would never be classed as being in Quarmby or Longwood today. I was a bit confused at first when I kept seeing those names but having looked at the old maps, it is now clear. In 1861, Joseph Worth is shown as residing at Westgate, Lindley. Westgate is not an actual named road and 428 was certainly not a house number. There were no house numbers in those days, it was just the next consecutive number on the census record. The enumeration description of the area on the 1861 census (page 1) as 'the north side of Long Lane and Westgate and east side of Weatherhill. This firmly puts it just to the south of what is now Lindley Moor Road and Weatherhill Road, not far from Haigh House Hill. You also have the family residing at New Hill, Longwood in 1871. This should be Kew Hill and again, is not in the current Longwood area but is just 300 metres from Haigh House Hill (see map attached) and would be now regarded as Lindley.
