He condensed the manufacture of iron at the old Beam homestead in the early 1840's
Member of State legislature 1848 Joshua Beam married Matilda Mauney. He possessed more than ordinary ability and from a boy he was naturally gifted in intelligence and business qualifications.
Joshua's father died while he was quite young, leaving him with his mother and one younger brother at the homestead. He was always obedient to his mother until her death in 1845.
Col. Joshua Beam owned a considerable estate of land. His land was in different parts of North & South Carolina and Alabama. Col. Joshua Beam was a member of our State Legislature in 1848.
