He graduated from the Berkshire Medical College at Pittsfield, Mass, with the degree of M. D., in 1838 ; physician, Providence, 1838-43; druggist, Providence, Chapin and Thurber, 1843-54; photographer, Providence, Manchester and Chapin, 1854-59; Commissioner of Public Schools, R. I., 1860, I863-69; Editor Rhode Island Schoolmaster; member of Central Congregational Church, Providence.
Dr. Joshua Bicknell Chapin was a man of keen intellect, of fine reasoning powers, a large reader, a good scholar and an able speaker.
Author of "Asthma: Its causes and treatment." He treated future PresidentTheodore Roosevelt in his youth.
