He married 8 Apr 1742 (or perhaps 1743), Amy (Blodgett; 1724-1819) [2]. There were at least four, perhaps 9 children of this marriage:
- Abigail (Whitney) Bacon (1744-1821); married Asa Bacon
- Huldah (Whitney) Palmer (1754-1798); married Elias Palmer
- David Whitney (1757–1850); married 1) [___]; 2) Phebe Bennett; 3) Eliza Wilson

- Amy (Whitney) Stevens (1761-1842); married Nathaniel Stevens
Joshua Whitney passed away in Plainfield, Connecticut, 10 Feb 1761 [5]. His grave is in Old Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield, Windham County, Connecticut, USA [6].
Notes
A) After his death, his widow married second, about 1770, Isaac Lawrence (1704–1793), as his second wife; he died 2 Sec 1793 at Canaan, Connecticut. She married third, about 1799, George Palmer (1719-1809).
B) Joshua's wife, Amy Blodgett, may be confused or conflated with Anna (Blodgett; 1714-) and/or Anne (Blodget; 1714-), who may be confused or conflated with each other. Significant investigation should be applied to differentiate them, or to merge them as may be appropriate.
