Juana Soto's father, Francisco Soto, owned Rancho San Lorenzo Baja (also called Rancho San Lorenzito) about 6,686 acres (27 sq. km), near present day San Lorenzo and Hayward. Patent was granted in 1877. His second wife, Barbara was the sister of Guillermo Castro, owner of Rancho San Francisco de las Llagas, and grandaughter of Joaquin Ysidro de Castro who came with de Anza's colonizing expedition in 1775.
Francisco Soto's father, Lazaro Soto, owned Rancho Canada de la Segunda (4,367 acres) in the Carmel Valley, patented in 1839.
