Julianne Hanscom (Szűcs-Weaver)

Julianne Hanscom (Szucs-Weaver) was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on 16 September 1920, daughter of Michael Laszlo Szucs-Weaver and his wife, Julianna Szucs-Weaver (Kish). Julianne graduated from New England Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1943 and then taught nursing at the White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles for several years. She returned to college in 1949 and earned her BA from Pacific Union College in 1950. Julianne was a sister of Dr. Michael L. Weaver (1922-1982), co-founder of Parkview Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, and Margaret Mozar (1911-1997), wife of tropical medicine expert Dr. Harold N. Mozar (1911-1995).

Julianne HANSCOM, 86, of Fletcher, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her residence following a period of declining health. She was born in Bridgeport, CT, the daughter of the late Michael L. and Julianna Kish Szucs-Weaver. She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport in 1939, and from the New England Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1943. She was a nurse at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles for the next few years, rising to the position of Nursing Supervisor and Nursing Educator. She returned to college in 1949 and earned her BA from Pacific Union College in 1950. On November 22, 1951, she was married in Loma Linda, CA to Dr. Alfred C. Hanscom. Over the course of their 55 years of marriage, they resided in Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, California, Michigan, Tennessee and North Carolina. She leaves behind a legacy of many friendships in all places where she has lived.

During her marriage, she worked as an office nurse and as a public health nurse in California. During an extraordinary period in her life, she also worked as an undercover detective for the Loma Linda Police Dept. and was instrumental in solving the case of a stolen church safe. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Michael L. Weaver, the founder of Parkview Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, and by a sister, Margaret Mozar, wife of tropical medicine expert, Dr. Harold N. Mozar.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Alfred C. Hanscom of Fletcher; three sons, Dr. David A Hanscom and his wife Barbara of Seattle, WA; Alan C. Hanscom of Salem, MA; Robert B. Hanscom and his wife Diane of Andover, MA; a daughter, Carol J. Haney and her husband Thomas of Fletcher; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Hanscom of Ketchum, ID; Elisabeth Henson and her husband Devin of Morganton, NC; Laura Sutton and her husband Joshua of Hendersonville; Matthew Haney of Morganton, NC; Rachel Hanscom of Sabattus, ME; Michael, Alexander and Amelia Hanscom, all of Andover, MA; one great-granddaughter, Abbigail Sutton of Hendersonville, and by five nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM, Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Fletcher Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pastor Gary Tolbert will officiate. Burial in the Hanscom family plot in Chatham Center Cemetery, Chatham Center, NH will take place at a later date.
