Already before 1939 Julius was living in France, Villieus sur Orge. In January 1939 (oficially, but possibly earlier) his brother Hermann moved from Germany to live at his place. After the capitilation of France in WW II (June 1940) Julius, his wife and Hermann joined the French resistance movement (Resistance).
