Julius Tayloe Simmons Jackson, Mississippi

Julius Tayloe Simmons died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

A native Jacksonian, he was born on April 17, 1934 at the Jackson Infirmary to Virginia "Ditty" and L. H. Simmons. J.T. was a graduate of Central High School and Mississippi College. Following his graduation, J.T. joined the United States Air Force and trained as a pilot. Upon completion of duties he returned to Jackson where he built a lifetime career with Lamar Life Insurance Company as a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Planner and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Consistently among the top salesmen in the company, J.T. would eventually own his own agency and represent several major life insurance companies.

He was a past president of the North Jackson Rotary Club, as well as a Paul Harvey Fellow and benefactor. He loved golf and achieved his dream of playing St. Andrews in Scotland. He was a fifth generation member of the historic Central Presbyterian Church in Jackson where he served as elder until 1993 when the church closed. He immediately joined Briarwood Presbyterian Church and continued his work as elder where he served the Presbyterian Church (USA) locally, regionally, and nationally.

J.T. is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Clark Simmons, son Travis Clark Simmons and Larry Owens, granddaughters Kimberly Simmons McMullin and Elizabeth Clark Simmons and their mother Kim McCay Simmons Kern, great grandsons Tyler McMullin, Tayloe Mc Mullin, and John Morgan Secrest, two brothers, Larry and Linda Morris and Dale and Ann Morris, sister Barbara Taylor and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Julius Tayloe Simmons, Jr., and brother, John G. Morris.

The burial will be at Cedarlawn Cemetery at 9:00am, visitation will be held at 10:00 followed by a Service of Witness to the Resurrection at 11:00 at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, all services will be on Saturday, February 2, 2013.
