About Jung Kong LEE 利榮康

JUNG KONG LEE died at the age of 65 in Kansas City, Mo. on Jan. 31, 1990, following a lengthy illness.

J.K. was born in Hong Kong and served in the Chinese Army during WWII. At one period, he was an interpreter for General "Vinegar Joe" Stillwell's army in the China, Burma, and India Theater. Before coming to the U.S. he attended Lingnan College in Hong Kong.

While at Princeton J.K. majored in chemistry, attain¬ing membership in Sigma Xi. He was a member of Cam¬pus Club. He received at Ph.D. in chemistry from Prince¬ton in 1955. After a year of post-doctoral study at M.I.T., J.K. went to the Univ. of Kansas, where he joined the chemistry dept. faculty. He stayed there for 24 years.

After his return to Hong Kong in 1980 to direct the family business, J.K. became a driving force in the Con¬sultative Committee for drafting of Basic Law, which has recently been published and which will be the constitu¬tion for Hong Kong after 1997, when the sovereignty of Hong Kong will revert to China.

J.K. served on the Princeton Advisory Council and was a founder of the Princeton Club of Hong Kong.

Our sympathy goes out to his wife, Ingrid; his son, Oliver; and his mother, Mrs. Hysam Lee.
