Justin Hurwitz (born 1985)[1] is an American composer and screenwriter, known for scoring the film La La Land.[2][3][4][5] He also scored Damien Chazelle's two other features, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench and Whiplash. For La La Land, he won the Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (for "City of Stars"). He also won the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and is currently nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Original Score and Best Original Song twice (for "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" and "City of Stars").[6] Contents [show] Biography[edit] Hurwitz was raised in California and later Wisconsin, the son of Ken Hurwitz, a writer, and Gail Hurwitz, a ballet dancer turned registered nurse.[1] He attended Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin.[7] Hurwitz met director Chazelle in Harvard University, playing in the same band, then became roommates, and went on to collaborate on a student film which would become Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench.[5]
