Kader Carlton "Carlton" Keaton

Kader Carlton Keaton was a son of William Robert Keaton and Lulu A. Holland. He was born 10 January 1917 in Douglas County, Georgia (sometimes incorrectly indexed as Douglas, Coffee County, Georgia) and died 1 April 1990 at a hospital in Chula Vista, San Diego County, California.

Per his obituary:

"... Born Jan. 10, 1917 in Georgia, he lived in Chula Vista five years. He was a construction estimator for Sully Miller Construction and served in the Navy during World War II. ..."

Military service

Keaton served in the United States Navy as a radarman 2nd class petty officer (E-5) during World War II. He enlisted on 9 August 1944 and was discharged 5 December 1945.

On 21 February 1945, he boarded the U.S.S. Phelps (DD-360); on 28 February 1945, he was listed as serving on the ship off the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. He was still on board on 1 July 1945 and 9 August 1945.

On 24 October 1945, he boarded the U.S.S. Delta (AR-9) from the U. S. Naval Training and Distribution Center at Camp Shoemaker (Dublin, Alameda County, California).

On 7 November 1945, he was aboard the U.S.S. Delta (AR-9) for transport to Jacksonville, Florida, where he would be discharged from the Navy.

First marriage

Kader married first, by 1940, to Carrie Marguerite Hudson. They had three children:

1. Jacqueline Ann (Keaton) Garraux, b. c. August 1939
2. Larry C. Keaton
3. Carolyn (Keaton) Hardy, b. 16 September 1942

Second marriage

Following a divorce, Keaton married Katherine Augusta Griffin on 9 March 1946 at the courthouse in Seattle, King County, Washington. He was listed as "K. Carlton Keaton" on the marriage certificate.

In 1954, they lived at 1120 North Artesia Street in Santa Ana, Orange County, California and appeared on the voter registry as Democrats.

In 1960, they lived at 12272 Meade Street in Garden Grove, Orange County, and again appeared on the voter registry as registered Democrats.

In November 1961, he was listed in his father's obituary as "K. Carlton Keaton," with a location of Chula Vista, San Diego County.

In 1964, he and Katherine were again listed as Democrats living at 12272 Meade in Garden Grove.
