BIOGRAPHY Karin-Elisabeth von Schaper was born on 31 October 1920 in Breslau, the daughter of Dr. Walther von Schaper and Elisabeth Louise, Freiin von Münchhausen.

On 11 June 1941 in Schwerin she married Friedrich Franz, Hereditary Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, the son of Friedrich Franz IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and Alexandra, Prinzessin von Hannover. However they divorced on 22 September 1967, and remarried on 27 April 1977 in Glücksburg. They remained childless.

On the death of her husband, on 31 July 2001, the male line of the house of Mecklenburg-Schwerin became extinct. Karin-Elisabeth died on 26 January 2012 in Glücksburg
