About Katharina Michailovna Meder

Born in Russia 1880. Studied in Moscow conservatory. Was an soprano opera singer in Imperial Mariinsky Theatre (Russian: Императорский Мариинский театр). Worked also as a vocal teacher in A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory (Russian: Санкт-Петербургская государственная консерватория имени Н. А. Римского-Корсакова). Katharina Michailovna Jakunina married Nikolai Meder 13.5.1906 in St. Petersburg. Marriage was never legalized in Finland. They had 2 children. After her divorce with Nikolai Katharina and children moved to Paris, France.

Nikolais marriages were reported in the newspapers like this: Difficulties in marriage goal. In August 1897, a young Swede, Miss Judith Nilsson, married the then polytechnic in Helsinki N. Meder, who at that time was a Greek Orthodox to his ftros confession, whereupon the wedding was last taken (in Willmanstrand) after both Ryck orthodox and Finnish Lutheran ritual. When the young couple, after a few years of cohabitation, no longer met on the man's side, the man demanded a divorce and promised to pay the necessary maintenance, which later, however, was completely absent. Mrs Judith Nilsson-Meder moved to Sweden, where she is still unable to obtain Swedish citizenship. because she is married to a Finnish official, for the same reason she can not remarry. The matter turned out to be happier for the young husband. Mr. N. Meder sought divorce from his Swedish wife at the Holy Synod and won his intention, and as early as 1906 on May 13, he married a Russian singer, Miss Katarina Jakenin. Mrs. Jakenin - Meder was orthodox, and the marriage was entered into after Russian church ritual. The unfortunate thing, however, is that Mr. N, Meder shortly before switched to Lutheran doctrine. It was not until 1908, when Mr Meder was already a husband and father of children, that he joined the Senate with a request for a divorce from his Swedish wife. The case has dragged on for two years, so that a rash in this difficult marriage affair today that has not been able to take place. And in fact, it will not be easy to find out. Mr. Meder himself considers himself married to Judit Nilsson — if he did not do so, he would not have filed for divorce. At least in Finland he is married to this woman, until the liberating decision falls on the highest court. As he was married at the conclusion of the new marriage only enlight Russian ritual, Mrs. Katarina Jakenin-Meder is not married and the children born in the marriage are not entitled to inherit Finnish law. What a tangle for gentlemen lawyers, what a motive for an operetta composer.
