Coddington gives Emme as the daughter of Roger Hulton and his wife Katherine Harrington, daughter of Sir James Harrington. However, per their dispensation, Roger and Katherine were married about 1469. Their 6th generation descendent, Hugh Gregory is said to be born say 1490-1500. That is chronologically impossible. RD900 notes the error concluding that in the published pedigrees there are two additional Roger Hultons between Emme and her likely parents, Roger and Elena (Hulton) Hulton.

Publication date 1906-1914 p. 28 "Hulton Ped. 14. (A pedigree of the Hulton family, containing illustrative documents, prepared by the late William Adam Hulton of Penwortham and printed privately about 1840, has been used in these notes.) A dispensation for the marriage of Roger Hulton and Katherine Harrington, related in the fourth degree, was granted by Paul II, and issued by the Bishop of Lichfield in Aug. 1469; Lich. Epis. Reg. xii, fol. 149b. In 1500 Katherine, widow of Roger Hulton, had her dower in Denton. In 1473 Roger Hulton held the manor of Middlewood in Hulton of the lord of Manchester by the twentieth part of a knight's fee and puture, a rent of 4d. and castleward 7d.; Mamecestre, 497."

Douglas Richardson in _Plantagenet Ancestry_ lists Sir James Harrington's (b. ca. 1375) daughter Katherine as married to Henry Halsall. Where does this leave the various Coddington and Jacobus works which list Katherine Harrington "daughter and heiress of Sir James Harrington" of Wolfege, as being married to Roger Hulton? It was this Sir James (1375) who founded the family at Wolfege , and only a daughter of his, not his descendants, can fit the generational time line of the pedigrees given by Coddington and Jacobus. Can she have been married twice?
The descendancy of Katherine Harrington to the Gregory family is in a S.G.M. post of 4 March 2000 by "Mercat". This is part of the Coddington article in T.A.G. vol. 38. There is much confusion as to the placement of this Katherine in the Harrington pedigree. She is of the Wolfege Harringtons , and is sometimes confused with the m daughter of a Sir James who is the great grandson of Sir James b. ca. 1375.
