About Khaya Harkavy

Info from 1811 Revision skazka of Jews from shtetl Novogrudok. Obtained by researcher Yuri Dorn. Elya, son of Gershon and Badana, was 34 years old in 1811. His wife, Gita, was 20 years old. Elya had a daughter, Khaya, who was about 14 years old in 1811. Her mother was probably Elya's first wife, Itka.

There is conflicting information in the census of November 8, 1811 for Navahrudak (Novogrudok). Here Elya (34) is listed with his wife Gita (20)-newcomer, and his daughter Hana (8), also newcomer, who would have been born, according to this census, in 1803.

Khana Garkavy married an unknown person. She was born circa 1801. She was born circa 1803. She was the daughter of Rabbi Eliahu Garkavy and Gitl Kamir Kaminer.

Khana Garkavy was also known as Hanna Harkavy. She appeared on the census of 8 November 1811 at Novogrudok, Novogrudok, Minsk;. She appeared on the census of 8 July 1816 at Novogrudok, Novogrudok, Minsk; appeared on the 1816 Revision List as Khana GARKAVY, age 13.

In the census of 1806, Elya is listed, but there is no mention of a wife or daughter.

I hired a researcher, Yuri Dorn, to investigate this part of the Harkavy family a few years ago, because some of the records had been destroyed, especially those relating to my grandfather, Elchanan Harkavy. In his research of the 1811 Revision Skazka of Jews from shtetl Novogrudok, he found that my grandfather Elchanan was the son of Josel Chaim(1854), who was the son of Leizer (1816), who was the son of Elya (1778) and Gita (1791). He also found that Bodana's name was actually Feiga-Bodana. (Shirley Portnoy)
