About Kierstine Jensdatter
Kiersten was part of a family whose occupation was "Skræders", (tailor). She probably learned sewing skills and worked from home.
Twenty-three year old Kirsten married Christen Jørgensen Haar on June 19, 1755. They had 9 children and owned their own farm at Houstrup.
Kiersten and her husband were married 45 years when was widowed in 1800. She continued to live at their family farm with their son, our ancestor, Peder Christensen Haahr at Houstrup. The 1801 census shows her name as "mother of the head of the house".
At her death in 1817, she was described as "aftægtskone", meaning, she was cared for by the people who took over her farm.
