About Kommerzienrat Max Josef Kohn
Excerpt from profile in Die bayerischen Kommerzienräte (2016), Marita Krauss (ed.)
Edited Google translation:
Appointed Kommerzienrat on 10.10.1882. In 1850, the Kohn family was one of the first Jewish families to settle in Nuremberg after the expulsion of the Jews in 1499. Soon they belonged to the upper bourgeoisie. In 1878, Kohn's father Joseph Kohn and his brother Anton Kohn founded the "Bankhaus Kohn" which soon became one of the largest private banks in Bavaria. Like his brothers, Kohn became a partner in the bank, which now called itself "Joseph Kohn Sons". In the years 1882 and 1896, he led the cash transactions of the national exhibition in Nuremberg: for his commitment in 1882, he received the Kommerzienrat title. He was also a member of the "Natural History Society of Nuremberg." His cousins Michael Kohn and Gerog Friedrich Kohn were also awarded the title of "Kommerzienrat".
Note: the above excerpt indicates more than one brother was a partner with Max Kohn in banking, whereas Max's brother Ernst was his partner and the only brother that lived to adulthood.
The brothers Ernst Kohn and Max Josef Kohn married the sisters Dorette Hopf (Kohn) and Pauline Hopf (Kohn), who were their first cousins through their mothers' side.
