About Kristian Hansen Koed
At age 20 Kristian left his residence and parish of Lindeballe with his residence being listed as Linneballe (sic) and set sail for America. His ID number was D0304K0612 which is a reference to the original Copenhagen police ledgers where all immigrants had to apply to emigrate. His registration date was April 6, 1904 and he listed his occupation as “smed” meaning blacksmith. He set sail on the S/S Hellig Olav from Copenhagen and on April 7, 1904 sailed from Kristiania-Kristiansand (present day Oslo) arriving in New York City on April 18, 1904. According to the ship’s manifest he was able to read and write, he paid his passage himself, was in good physical condition and had $45 in his pocket. He stated that he had never been in the United States before and that he was heading to see his brother Hans Koed at 2219 South Riverside Ave. in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After two years Christian returned to his home in Denmark. Christian and his wife Karen Horsbøll left Lindeballe for Minneapolis in May 1906 on the S/S Lucania.
