- Transferred from Otago Mounted Rifles to new Zealand Field Artillery March 1916
- Embarked for France from Alexandira April 1916
- Wounded in action September 1916. Admitted to hospitals in England.
- February 1917 joined 3 Reserve Battalion; May 1917 forfeited pay for overstaying leave.
- July 1917 transferred to Otago Regiment, 3rd Battalion. Detached for School of Instruction.
- At the beginning of November appointed Lance Corporal
- December 1917 rejoined battalion
