• Son of Seldon and Harriet Johnson of 8 Pentland Avenue, Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand
• Embarked for Dardanelles 3 August 1915
• Admitted Mudros October 1915 dysentery; then to Malta, and Zeitoun with dysentery and jaundice.
• Rejoined Unit in Zeitoun February 1916
• Transferred from Otago Mounted Rifles to new Zealand Field Artillery March 1916
• Embarked for France from Alexandira April 1916
• Wounded in action September 1916. Admitted to hospitals in England.
• February 1917 joined 3 Reserve Battalion; May 1917 forfeited pay for overstaying leave.
• July 1917 transferred to Otago Regiment, 3rd Battalion. Detached for School of Instruction.
• At the beginning of November appointed Lance Corporal
• December 1917 rejoined battalion
