About Lady Lucy Grantham

As his third wife, Henry Sacheverell married in 1625 Lucy, daughter of William Boughton of Lawford Hall, Newbold on Avon. After he died, Lucy married Sir Thomas Grantham in 1630, by whom she had a daughter Anne. Anne later married Sir Edward Marrow.

Will available from National Archives. Dame Lucy Grantham gave 200 pounds to the town of Nottingham, 'to be employed for the setting forth of poor burgesses children apprentices for ever'.

She left £1400 and all her extensive properties, including gold and pearls, to her grandson and sole heir, Samuel Marow, who was then 14 years old. She appointed Gervase Piggott as his guardian, responsible for his education and stewardship of the large estate which she bequeathed Samuel, until he reached adulthood.

Thomas Grantham firstly married Frances Puckering, the daughter of John Puckering; they had four sons and three daughters. He secondly married widow Lucy Sacheverall of Ratcliffe on Soar, Nottingham, daughter of William Boughton, with whom he had a further daughter, Ann. One son Thomas Grantham became MP for Grantham. Ann married into the Marrow dynasty of Berkswell, Warwick and her son was Samuel Marrow whose descendants were governors of Australia. Both Ann and her husband Edward Marow had died by the time Lucy wrote her will, in 1667.
