About Lamrock Flower

Year of birth could be 1660.

Lamrock Flower is the progenitor of the American branch of the Flower family. He was born in Chewton Mendip, Somerset, England. The date of his emigration is not known exactly, but he settled abt 1685 in Hartford, Connecticut. He married Lydia Hewitt Smith in Hartford in 1686. He was a lawyer and his will was dated 21 October 1715. To the left is a pictorial representation of the 17th Century individual. Lamrock passed away in June 1716. The Inventory of his Estate was taken on July 4th 1716 by Samuel Sedgewick and Thomas Steele. In his will he asked that his just debts be paid and to that end that a parcel of land at the west end of his lot be sold. He left most of his estate to his son Lamrock and what was left was to be divided among his 4 sons after his wife's re-marriage or she was deceased. He was the father of 10 children. He made his wife his sole executrix with the witnesses being Benjamin Colton and Joseph Butler. The Flower name is of French origin. It comes to America through England. Persons known by the name of Floier held large possessions in Devonshire, England immediately after the Conquest of that land in 1066 by William the Conqueror. His ancestor Captain William Floier was born near the city of Exeter, England in 1450 and accompanied the army of King Edward IV on the invasion into France in 1490. He married Phillipa Crooke and became a resident of Willston, Dorsetshire. Of his three sons, William born 1530 married Elizabeth Kirk and it was from this marriage that Lamrock Flower was descended.
