About Lance Corporal Allan McLean Davidson

Allan McLean "Scotty" Davidson (6 March 1891-16 June 1915) was a Canadian ice hockey player and a soldier.

  • He was considered one of the best wingers of hockey's early years.
  • In 1910 and 1911 he led his Kingston junior team to two Ontario Hockey Association championships.
  • He moved to Calgary, Alberta for the 1911-1912 season and led the Calgary Athletics senior team to the Alberta provincial championship.
  • In 1912 Allan began playing professionally with the Toronto Blueshirts and was among the leading scorers for 1912, 1913, and 1914.
  • He captained Toronto to the Stanley Cup in 1914.
  • Davidson was the first professional hockey player to volunteer with the Canadian Expeditionary Force
  • Davidson was killed in action while fighting in Belgium in 1915. He was said to have been killed either after refusing to retreat during a battle or while helping a fellow wounded soldier.
  • He is commenorated on the Canadian National Vimy Mémorial.
  • "Scotty" Davidson was posthumously inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1950.
