Laurie E. Arnold, 71, of Barry, passed away at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at her home.
Laurie was born July 12, 1945, in Racine, Wis., to Micheal and Iva Makovsky Chehval. She was married to Ronald Arnold on Jan. 30, 1982, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hannibal, Mo. He survives.
Laurie was a professor for almost 20 years at John Wood Community College in Quincy.
She also previously taught high school and also had worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal as a public relations director.
Laurie loved theater and was active in many area community theaters over the years, including Pittsfield, Hannibal and Quincy and the Old Ice House Theater in Hannibal.
Laurie participated as an actor and director and in many other capacities over the years.
Laurie also enjoyed collecting antiques, especially ironware and cast iron cookware.
Hunting antiques at auctions was one of Laurie's favorite things to do.
A talented cook as well, everyone loved Laurie's fried chicken.
Laurie loved family gatherings and the holidays with her family. The times that they shared together were her favorite.
Laurie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal.
Other survivors include three children, Nikki O'Dell (Barry) of Rochester, Patrick Barns (Tina) of Palmyra, Mo., and Seth Arnold (Marianne) of Winfield, Mo.; one brother, Dr. Micheal Chehval (Jackie) of St. Louis; one sister, Kathleen Nickason of Rolla, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren, Carrie, Ryan, Cole, Erin, Cory, Molly, Alexandria, James, David, Sage, Pyper, Jazmine and Seanne. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, E. Leroy Arnold; and her mother-in-law, Lucia Arnold.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hannibal. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park, Hannibal. The Rev. Michael Stoerger will conduct.
Pallbearers will be Gary Holland, Larry McCluskie, Devon Sternke, Dana Ruhl, Jim Buckwalter and Pat Wagner.
VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the church.
MEMORIALS: St. John's Lutheran School Scholarship Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice in care of James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
ARRANGEMENTS: James O'Donnell Funeral Home, Hannibal.
