About Lawrence Whitman "Larry" Ward

Lt. Ward served in WWII as a bombardier on a B17. He was shot down over Hamburg, Germany on his 25th mission and was a POW for 6 months.

Obituary-
Larry Ward went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22nd after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. He never complained. Larry was always ready with a smile and twinkle in his eye. He will be remembered for his kind, generous, and loving spirit. The love he had for his wife and family was beyond measure.

Born and raised in Elkins, West Virginia on a dairy farm, Larry was the youngest of 9 children. He never lost the love he had for Elkins and will return there to be buried.

With a degree from the University of Michigan in Forestry, Larry worked as a Forest Ranger in Virginia before coming to Portland with the Fish and Wildlife Commission in 1960. His next career was owning a business as a Rural Appraiser in the Portland area. He especially enjoyed working with vineyard startups and grass seed properties. In 2003 he moved to Springfield to retire and be near family. He was a farmer at heart, cultivating amazing gardens and providing friends with an abundance of shallots, blueberries and other produce.

Lt. Ward served in WWII as a bombardier on a B17. He was shot down over Hamburg, Germany on his 25th mission and was a POW for 6 months.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Donna of Springfield OR; daughters Debbie Crawford (Ron) of Springfield OR, Suzanne Burdette (Gil) of Midlothian VA; son Eric Ward (Irene) of Concord MA; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
