Louise Ficklen "Lou" Folger died peacefully Saturday, April 9, 2011 at her home. Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Greenville, followed by a reception at the church. Lou was born in Danville, Va., on Feb. 26, 1942, the oldest child of Louis Stuart Ficklen and Louise Dibrell Webb, and raised in Greenville. She was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Raleigh, and a 1964 graduate of Hollins College in Roanoke, Va. She later obtained a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and worked for the United Way in Charlotte before returning again to Greenville in 1980. She continued her work with the United Way until her retirement. Lou lived her life both personally and professionally in service of others. After her professional career, Lou enjoyed many activities, including bridge, golf, and spending time with family. She particularly cherished her close and fun-loving relationship with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Radford Garrett Folger. She is survived by daughter, Louise Folger Sloan and husband, John, of Wilmington; grandchildren, David, Libby, and Jack, all of Wilmington; sister, Myra Joy and husband, Bob, of Vonore, Tenn.; brother, Stuart Ficklen and wife, Susie, of Hankins, N.Y.; stepsisters, Sara Rogers of Raleigh, and Paula Arthur of Greenville; and stepbrothers, Bob Arthur of Richmond, Va., and Tom Arthur of Tampa, Fla. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/reflector/obituary.aspx?pid=150200...
