Hall of Fame Sports Broadcaster. During a career of fifty-nine years, he called games for several Major League teams, notably the voice of the Houston Astros from 1985 until 2012. He will perhaps be best remembered for calling Hank Aaron's 715th career home run in 1974. Hamilton acquired experience with the Armed Forces Radio, while serving with the United States Navy during World War II. Following the war, he enrolled at the University of Iowa. After announcing collegiate and Minor League baseball games, he broke into the Major League, as part of the St. Louis Browns' broadcast team in 1953. He followed this with stints for the St. Louis Cardinals (1954), Chicago Cubs (1955 to 1957), Chicago White Sox (1961 to 1965), Atlanta Braves (1966 to 1974), Pittsburgh Pirates (1975 to 1979) and a return to the Cubs (1980 to 1984). He was honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame, when he was recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award in 1992.
