About Leon Ettinger

ETTINGER, LEON age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16 in Winter Park, FL. Born in New York City on December 4, 1915, Leon and his family moved to Miami Beach in 1921. He graduated from the Cranbook School in Bloomfield Hills MI and attended the University of Miami. Married to Beatrice Bornstein for 72 years, they moved to Orlando in 1940 and became involved in the citrus industry. Although he was mainly a citrus grower, he was also involved in the packing house business and other phases of the industry. He was known by all his business associates for his "hand shake" contracts - always good for his word. He enjoyed cars, boats and airplanes, but mainly he was devoted to his family. Leon was a founding member of Temple Israel, chairing their first building committee. He was actively involved as a Pacesetter of the Jewish Federation. He was a member of Congregation Ohev Shalom and the Congregation for Reform Judaism. When Leon moved into the Mayflower Retirement Center, he made many friends and joined a water color art class. His new found talent resulted in some of his paintings hanging on their exhibit wall. Besides his widow, he was devoted to his three children Jeffrey Ettinger (Bettye), Marilyn Crotty (Garrett), and Roz Fuchs. He was the loving grandfather to nine and adoring great-grandfather to seven, and a caring big brother to Martha Gross (deceased), Beatrice Sherman,Miriam Abel, and Charlotte Rotenberg (Harold). Leon was most appreciative of his wonderful team of caregivers led by Mirlene Perez. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leon Ettinger may be made to Jewish Family Services or Hospice of the Comforter. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct 19, at 1:30 p.m. at Congregation Ohev Shalom, 5015 Goddard Ave., Orlando with burial to follow at Temple Israel Cemetery. Services entrusted to BETH SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 640 Lee Road, Orlando FL 32810. 407.599.1180. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/orlandosentinel/obituary.aspx?n=le...
